Motherhood comes with enough surprises — figuring out breastfeeding and pumping shouldn’t be one of them. Milk Stork Mom Hacks are real tips from real moms to make every day a little easier, whether you’re at home, on the go, or somewhere in between.

On-the-go Hacks

  • Pumping session kit
Pre-pack one complete pump session (clean parts, wipes, marker, snack, storage bag) into a bag so you’re not fumbling mid-flight or mid-meeting. Pro tip: use a leak-proof reusable wet bag so everything can go right back in it when you’re done.

  • Freeze it flat, pack it slim
If you have access to a freezer, freeze milk bags flat to save space in your cooler and reduce spill risk.

  • Manual backup
Always keep a manual pump in your car, tote, or office in case your wearable or electric pump No power, no problem.

  • Prep in advance for airport security
Read our TSA guide (QR code below!) and bring a TSA cares card in your wallet to show to TSA when screened. Knowing your rights will reduce your airport stress and help you confidently go through security.

  • Sterilize in the microwave
Most hotels will provide a microwave if you ask in advance. Keep microwave sterilizer bags in your suitcase for fast, hotel room sanitizing. Make sure your pump parts (especially valves, membranes, and tubing) are labeled as microwave-safe. Most standard plastic parts are, but always double-check your pump manufacturer’s guidelines.

  • Track your pump parts
Label your pump parts by day using washi tape or mini stickers to make sure everything gets rotated and replaced regularly.

  • Power bank = pump lifeline
Your wearable pump’s new BFF is a portable charger — don’t forget it! Helpful for when you can’t charge or are on the go and your pump dies.

Milk Supply Hacks

  • Collect letdown
Your body makes milk in real time, so use a hands-free milk collector on the opposite breast while feeding. Store the extra milk in the fridge, and freeze it at the end of the day if not planning to use it within 3 days.

  • First in, first out
Always label your milk storage bags with the date and time collected. Stack them in your freezer in a milk bag storage container with a bottom slot, so you can pull the oldest one out from the bottom and use it first.

Sleep Saver Hacks

  • Dream feeding for more sleep
Feed your baby while they're still asleep or very drowsy—usually during the late evening hours, just before you go to bed. The idea is to "top them off" so they (and you!) can get a longer stretch of sleep at night.

  • Milk Cubby bedside temperature maintenance
Use the Milk Cubby as a bedside cooler— it’s perfect for stashing milk after those middle-of-the-night pump sessions or an extra bottle of milk for those late-night feeds your partner can handle. Especially for those with two-story homes; walking down those stairs at 3 am is not fun or safe when exhausted!

  • No fuss night feeding
Set up a nighttime tote or station with essentials right by your bed: MIlk Cubby with frozen ice packs, milk collector and bottle or breast milk storage bag, burp cloth, nipple balm, snacks, nipple shields, and anything else you need on hand. Less fumbling to find supplies = more sleep.

New Mom Hacks

  • Breastfeeding pillow double duty
Your pillow is great for breastfeeding, but it’s also perfect for tummy time or giving your baby a comfy spot to rest while you're lounging on the bed or couch together.

  • Latching SOS
Keep silver nipple shields and a small mirror in your tote—perfect for troubleshooting latch issues on the go.

  • Track your progress
Use your phone’s Notes app or one of the many breastfeeding apps available to jot down feeding patterns, pain flare-ups, or questions for your next lactation consult. Tracking even a little helps you spot trends, remember important details, and advocate for what you

  • Hot and cold therapy alternation
Store one pair of gel therapy pads in the fridge and one at room temp to heat up when needed. Alternate between cold and warm to get the benefits of both.
